Alipurduar (West Bengal), April 1 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday interacted with tea garden workers and school students in Alipurduar, and announced setting up of the state's first integrated administrative complex in the northern district.

"Today on my way to Alipurduar, I have met tea garden workers and school students. In my first public distribution programme in Alipurduar as a new district, more than 14 thousand school-going girls were given the benefits under our 'Kanyashree' programme," Banerjee posted on Facebook.

The chief minister is on a two-day trip to north Bengal.

"As a model approach, foundation stone was laid for the state's first integrated administrative complex in Alipurduar, which will house important government offices of the district in one location," the Trinamool Congress supremo said.

She said various amenities and schemes were launched for tribal students and tea garden workers in the district.

"Thousands of cycles were given to the tribal girl students to commute to schools. I am proud of them.

"Besides distribution of scholarship, loan for self-employment, housing, pattas (legal document for land ownership), agricultural tools and other benefits to thousands of beneficiaries of the district, drinking water schemes for tea gardens were also unveiled today," she said.
