NCMC reviews Kashmir flood situation


ArrayNew Delhi, April 1 (IANS): The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) met here on Wednesday to take stock of the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.

The committee reviewed the relief and rehabilitation activities being undertaken by the state authorities as well as the assistance being provided by the central government agencies, said an official statement here.

This was the NCMC's second meeting on the issue in the past three days. The first meeting was held on March 30.

The statement said the state authorities informed the NCMC that currently the water level was much lower than danger mark and they were fully geared up to meet any eventualities.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force pressed eight teams to undertake the swift relief and rescue operations in vulnerable places of different parts of the Valley.

They are in constant touch with the civil authorities for the assessment of situation and to respond as per requirements. Six columns of the army are also deployed to assist civil authorities.

So far, 18 people have been killed in the floods that hit Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
