Soldier, policeman killed in Kashmir gunfight


Srinagar, April 2 (IANS): A soldier and a police official were killed on Thursday in a fierce gunbattle with guerrillas in Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.

Security forces on Thursday morning surrounded a house in Hardashuru village, near Tangmarg, after receiving information about militants hiding there.

"As the security forces closed in on the militants, they started indiscriminate firing, triggering an exchange of fire," a police official told IANS.

"One SPO (Special Police Officer) and one soldier have been killed, while one soldier is injured," the official added.
