Mangalore, Feb 26: A mega convention of ‘People’s Power and Rights Assertion’ was held as part of the 30th year celebrations of Nagarika Seva Trust (NST) at Guruvayankere here on Sunday February 25.
The 10th anniversary celebrations of Karavali Mahila Jagruthi Vedike, Krishikara Vedike – Karnataka and DK Parisarasaktara Okkuta were held on the same occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, New Delhi Forum for Biotechnology and Food Security president Dr Devinder Sharma urged the government to frame policies which would ensure minimum income to farmers from their agricultural produce.
He expressed his concern over the rising number farmer suicides and called upon farmers to fight for their rights. He also demanded inclusion of farmers under the Pay Commission and said the agricultural policies of the government have resulted in farmers losing their lands.
The programme was inaugurated by Kudremukh National Park Conservation committee convenor Vasanthi.
Among those present zilla panchayat president Sushma Janardhan, former minister K Gangadhar Gowda and MLA K Prabhakar Bangera.
