Udupi, Feb 27: Dark shadows of bonded labour in practice are now once again hovering once again on quarries operating in the district.  In yet another raid conducted in a quarry at Kunjargiri near Shirva here, tahsildar has taken to custody 32 labourers and 8 children.

Tahsildar Muralidhar raided the quarry owned by one Guruswamy agt Kunjargiri along with M P Ramchandra, president of Karnataka Bovi Association on Monday February 26.  The rescued labourers have complained about bonded labour.  Tahsildar said that the statement in this regard would be taken from the rescued labourers after which they will be produced before the deputy commissioner.

The raid was conducted after Puttamma and Swaminathan, labourers in the quarry owned by Guruswamy complained about bonded labour through a letter to Bovi Association.  The rescued labourers on the other hand have said that they would be returning to their native.
