Udupi, Feb 27: Pejavar Math will be starting a hostel in which priority will be given to students from dalit, backward communities.

This was announced by Shri Vishweshwarateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Math on Monday February 26.  He was speaking to reporters after visiting Shri Kachur Malti Devi Temple and Bhagwan Shri Babbuswami Kshetra at Barkur near Brahmavar here.  The temple is under renovation.

The hostel will be started in the coming scholastic year.  Though all the Hindu students are eligible to join the hostel, preference will be given to dalits, tribals and backward classes, he added.

MLA K Raghupati Bhat, state INTUC general secretary Sadashiv Shetty, ZP member Kota Srinivas Poojary, TP member Sathish Poojary and others were present on the occasion.

Gokuldas, general secretary of Temple Renovation committee read the appeal while B S Chennappa welcomed the gathering.  Karunakar compered the programme.
