Karkala, Feb 27: Santhosh alias Kitti (35), prime accused in Nakre Diwakar Shetty murder case has been arrested by police in a private hospital in Mangalore on Saturday February 24.

As reported earlier in these columns Diwakar Shetty was hacked to death by a group of persons near Joduraste just before the gram panchayat elections almost two years ago.  Santhosh was the prime accused in the case but was at large eversince.

Santhosh was admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore after he sustained a bullet injury accidentally.  He was putting back a pistol into holster when it fired accidentally injuring him.  He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore where he said that some unidentified person fired at him while he was riding. 

But the wound indicated that it was not shot from a distance.  With this suspicion the hospital authorities brought the case to the attention of the police who in turn managed to arrest Santhosh.  Later he disclosed that the accident had taken place on Friday February 23 in his friend Ganesh's house at Hawaldarbettu.

He has now been remanded to judicial custody.  Meanwhile his accomplice Dhananjay has managed to escape.
