Nine killed in house collapse, landslides in Kashmir


Jammu/Srinagar, April 3 (IANS): Nine people were killed in incidents of house collapse and landslide in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said.

A senior police officer told IANS in Jammu that seven members of a family were killed when their house collapsed following incessant rain in the hilly Doda district of Jammu region.

"Seven members of a family - four men and three women - were buried alive when their house collapsed in Diwalkund village of Doda," he said, adding that the bodies had not been recovered yet.

State disaster management teams have been rushed to the inaccessible hilly village, he added.

Two people were killed and two others were injured in the border town of Uri in Baramulla district of the Kashmir Valley when they got trapped under a tree dislodged in a landslide.

"A landslide uprooted a tree in Uri town today which fell on four people, two of whom died on the spot while two others sustained injuries," said a police officer, adding that the injured were admitted to hospital for treatment.
