Mangalore, Feb 28: A workshop on ‘Management of Hazardous Industrial Waste’ was organized by the district administration, local unit of state Pollution Control Board, District Small Industries Association at Yeyyadi here on Tuesday February 27.
Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao emphasized the need for individual awareness and responsibility in managing waste. He also called for special care while disposing non-biodegradable wastes like polythene bags and plastics.
District Small Industries Association president U Gopinath Mallya presided. Echoing the DC’s statement, Mallya said that individual awareness was more important than forming more regulations. He lamented that the regulations regarding waste management formed till date have been time and again violated.
NITK Chemical Engineering department faculty Prof Srinikethan, KSPCB (Bangalroe) environment officer D R Kumaraswamy and other dignitaries from various organizations presented papers on waste management on the occasion.
Among those present was state Pollution Control Board city environment officer Ramesh Kumar.
