Udupi, Mar 3: More than 25 acres of woods were destroyed owing to sudden fire at Abbedi Ranchinagar near Padubidri here on Friday March 2.
The woods and the hillock belonged to one Subbappa Poojary of Padubidri. Fire broke-out suddenly and by the time locals noticed it, it had engulfed huge land. Though efforts were made to extinguish the fire, they were of no use.
It was only owing to the united efforts of Udupi and Padubidri units of fire brigades that fire was finally overpowered in the evening.
