Mangalore, Mar 4: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy has announced awards for excellence in three different fields for 2006. The award winners are Vaman Nandavar for Tulu literature and research, Ramdas Devadiga for Tulu theatre and film and Macharu Gopal Naika for Tulu Folklore.

Announcing the awards at a press conference here on Saturday, president of the academy M K Seetharama Kulal said the award carries Rs 10,000 in cash, memento and a citation. The awards will be presented on March 17 at Baikampady.

Kulal also announced the Tulu book award for 2004 and 2005. Those selected for the award are Tappugu Taredanda (poetry) by N P  Shetty, Radd Kudruda Naduttu (novel) by Keshava Sankamar and Korabdhu Tannimaniga (play) by U R Chandar.

For 2005, Kudala Mallige (poetry) by Venkataraja Puninchithaya, Mittabailu Yamnuakke (novel) by D K Chowta, Satyada Siri (play) by Jagadish Shetty Kenchanakere and Suragiya Hoovu (translation) by V B Chandraiah have been selected for the award. The book award carries Rs 5000 in cash, memento and a citation. They will be presented on March 25 in Mangalore.
