Mysore, Mar 4: The city police, in a daring operation yesterday, arrested a gang of nine notorious rowdies from Bangalore when they were planning to commit a dacoity in city.

On a tip off, the Anti-Rowdy Squad of CCB led by Inspector C Upendra rushed to Rajivnagar II Stage at around 7 pm and surrounded the tempo trawler parked on Muneswar Temple Road and took the rowdies into custody along with the gang leader K Laxminarayan alias killer Lakki.

The police seized a country-made revolver, bullets, one dagger, two knives, five matches, a cash of Rs 2,450, gold ornaments, photocopies of documents pertaining to Benami lands, a packet containing chilli powder and the vehicle (KA 02 AB 004) from the gang.

A press release from the office of the Police Commissioner today said that the gang had met Chetan, an alleged rowdy of Vidyaranyapuram here, now lodged in Mysore Central Jail on Feb. 28 and offered him to get him released on bail.

They were planning to commit a dacoity in city to mobilise money for his bail when they were arrested.

Chetan is an accomplice of Ganesh, another notorious rowdy of Mysore, who is in jail for allegedly murdering a cable operator last year. The gang was planning to engage Chetan to murder their rivals Jaggi and Rajesh, who are also notorious in Bangalore underworld.

Killer Lakki and his gang had murdered their rival Prakash of Rajivnagar in a dispute over money lending and real estate business in 1998.

The gang murdered another rowdy gang leader Prasad alias Prasadi in 2005 for the same reason. Rowdy Jaggi and rowdy Rajesh, elder brother and brother-in-law of Prasad, were reportedly hatching a plot to murder Killer Lakki to avenge the killing of Prasad.

In order to save himself, killer Lakki wanted to engage Chetan to eliminate Jaggi and Rajesh.

The rowdies, who were arrested yesterday along with Killer Lakki include Somashekhar, Lucas alias Lokan, Raja Rao, Prahlad, Prakash, Praveen Kumar, Ravikumar alias Babu and M Kiran Solanki.

The Police team led by C Upendra which arrested the gang included inspector B. Ramamurthy, D Dhananjay and Sub-Inspector Parashivamurthy and CCB Staff. Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has commended the team for their successful operation.
