Mangalore, Mar 4: Popular Konkani weekly ‘Raknno’ organized a Konkani Writers' Meet on Sunday at Sandesha Cultural Hall, Bajjodi here.

Published from Mangalore for the last 69 years, Raknno has readers spread far and wide.

The programme began with a welcome by Fr Francis Rodrigues, the editor of the weekly and Ronald Fernandes, Correspondent, Deccan Herald introducing the purpose of the meet.

Renowned Kannada writer Dr Narendra Rai Derla addressed the gathering on the subject 'Creative Writing in the Present Journalism' followed by an interaction with eminent senior Konkani Writers.  

Msgr Fred V Pereira, the Vicar General of the Diocese launched the newly established 'Raknno Journalism Scholarship' for the benefit of students. Also present at the meet were Paul Moras, president of Akila Bharata Konkani Parishad, Edward Nazareth, president of Konkani Writers Forum, Karnataka.

An interaction with 17 senior Konkani writers was also held. The programme ended with Jyoti Lasrado delivering the vote of thanks and music programme by Ashit Pinto.
