• It is necessary to have normal water supply till first week of June: MLA 

Udupi, Mar 5: K Raghupati Bhat, MLA, on Sunday March 4 said that people should not waste drinking water especially during the summer months. He was speaking at the "Janaspanadana" mass contact programme organised at Kodankur, here.

Bhat said that the issue of water problem always arose in March. Water for Udupi city was presently being supplied from the Swarna First Stage and Swarna Second Stage projects. But the inflow of water into the Swarna river was low. This made it essential on the part of the people in the city not to waste water. People should use water sparingly because it was necessary to have normal water supply till the first week of June, he said. A sum of Rs. 2 crore was being spent on the maintenance of the water supply system annually. The work on the second stage would be completed shortly, he said.

Officials of the Udupi City Municipal Council should give water supply connections from the second stage project to houses in the next 15 days, he added.

The Government had released a grant of Rs. 1.5 crore for development projects under the 12th Finance Commission.

A sum of Rs. 48 lakh had been released for road projects, including Rs. 25 lakh for the repair of the Brahmagiri-Jodukatte Road, he said. The widening of the Udupi-Manipal Road had been taken up, he added.
