Mangalore, Mar 6: The New Mangalore Port has achieved an all-time record by handling 23,724 tonnes of limestone in M V Ince Pacific on March 1 by utilising the newly built deep draught multipurpose berth.

This is the highest quantity of limestone handled at the port on a day from a single vessel, surpassing the earlier record of 20,174 tonnes handled on M V Talisaman on October 24, 2006.

A press release from New Mangalore Port Trust here said that in terms of quantity handled in a single shift, the port has set a new record by handling 9,110 tonnes during the second shift on March 1.

This surpasses an earlier record of 6,886 tonnes handled on October 24 during the first shift. The vessel called on the port on Thursday carrying 45,405 tonnes of limestone from UAE for Jindal Steels, Hospet.
