Panaji, Mar 7: An australian paedophile was sentenced to ten years' rigorous imprisonment in a sentence that was pronounced on Wednesday, March 7 morning, by a local court.
Australian national Warner Wulf Ingo was sentenced under various sections of indian penal code and maximum sentence is 10 years. RI.
He was arrested in Sydney and brought down to India in 2005, chargesheeted by CBI,for his involvement in a massive sex racket involving minor children at Fatorda town, 35 kms away from here.
The district and sessions judge A D Salkar had convicted Ingo on charges of sodomy, unnatural sex with minors, abduction and criminal conspiracy.
The court pronounced 10 years' RI and fine of Rs 5,000, in default a year's RI under section 377 of Indian Penal Code, three years' RI and fine of Rs 2,000, in default three months RI under section 363 of IPC, Seven years RI, fine of Rs 3,000, in default three months RI under section 367 of IPC. All the sentences will run concurrently.
The accused was important link in the paedophilia scam with a German national Freddy Peats as the kingpin. Peats operated a well-established sex racket in Goa until his arrest in 1991, which subsequently led to his conviction five years later. The massive scam, going under the guise of an orphanage, was exposed by the local police after some child right groups took up the initiative.
Investigations had revealed that Peats, convicted for supplying destitute children to wealthy European males in Goa, died in 2005 while serving a life sentence in an Indian prison.
"Ingo was one of the clients of Peats who along with others from different nations were probed for their involvement in the scam," police stated.
Goa police are still on lookout for Eoghan Colm McBride, a New Zealander who in 2002 was sentenced to seven-year prison term for seeking services from Peats. He later jumped bail while on parole.
Dominique Sabir, a Frenchman involved in the same child sex racket, was also arrested in 1996 but he too jumped the bail.
