Kuwait, Apr 16: The Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait (AAK) commenced its decennial celebration with a grand event 'Glam & Glitz' to mark Women’s Day, on Friday, April 10 at the Avanthi Palace Restaurant, Kuwait.
The celebration began with the invoking of graces from the Almighty as liturgical secretary Lydia Misquith led the audience into prayer. The founder and current president Diany Coutinho together with the executive committee then cut a cake baked by talented AAK member Maria Coelho.
Women empowerment was the theme for the event and as president Diany Coutinho welcomed all gathered, she briefed them about the Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait (AAK), a truly empowered group of women, who over the past 10 years have successfully supported the education of over 125 deserving students at graduation and post graduation levels at St Agnes College, Mangaluru.
The highlights of the evening were a mesmerizing talk from Maria Coelho on women empowerment, some melodious singing by Shaila Lobo (finalist of the GVOM- Season 4) and Sunita D’silva (semi-finalist in Kuwait of GVOM- Season 4), a beautiful poem 'Phenomenal Women' penned by Maya Angelou was recited by committee member Preethi Menezes. 'Moga Savlli'- the female powered Konkani music album by Dilraj Rodrigues and Roshan D’souza, Angelore was also released in Kuwait by Diany Coutinho in Kuwait during the event. The release of the album befitted the theme of the event, as one of AAK’s active member and ex-president, Reema D’souza-Lasrado rendered her voice as her maiden venture to the title song of the album.
Dynamic and talented ladies attended the event but it was Shaila Lobo who was crowned the 'AAK Glam & Glitz Queen' for her vibrant personality, wit and poise. She walked away with a floral crown, sash and gifts.
The vibrant compere for the evening Ursula Lobo together with committee member Preethi Menezes conducted exciting games and activities to make the event a truly enjoyable one. A sing-song session led by Felcita D’souza and group took the crowd back down memory lane as everyone joined in singing songs of the yester-years. Cultural secretary Bonita D’silva rendered the vote of thanks. Reciting grace ex-president Jasmine Cutinha invited the guests for a sumptuous dinner arranged by Avanthi Palace Restaurant.
Feet tapping music provided by a young and rising star DJ Shane ensured that the women of all ages left their mark on the dance floor with moves from the good old disco nights to the latest bollywood hits. The event was well conducted by compere Ursula Lobo and the best moments of the event were captured through photography by yet another talented AAK member Delma Coutinho.
As the scintillating 'Glam & Glitz' evening came to an end, the guests left with appreciation of a well organized and enjoyable evening.
