Beltangady, Mar 9: Vimukti Social Service centre organized mega rally of women on International Women's Day at Ujire near here on Thursday March 8.

The programme was presided over by Fr Vincent Furtado, vice-provincial of Holy Trinity Province of Karnataka.  L H Manjunath of SKDRDP noted Kannada writer and professor at University College Mangalore Bhuvaneshwari Hegde were the guest of honour on the occasion.

MLA Prabhakar Bangera flagged-off the women's rally.  The rally was organized from government school Ujire to Shri Janardhan Temple premise.

A stage programme was organized later which was inaugurated by M G Patamma, member of Kolar Rural Women's Federation who has recently been bestowed with national-level award for here contribution to women's empowerment.

Vimukti director Fr Arun delivered the introductory remarks while Vimukti Women's Federation president Jyothi welcomed the gathering.  Federation member Gracy proposed the vote of thanks and Savitha compered the programme.

The stage programme was followed by lunch.  After the lunch, the women presented variety entertainment and cultural programme.  More than 2,500 women participated in the International Women's Day celebrations.
