Rajnath visits three rain-affected districts in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday visited Saharanpur, Badaun and Kanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh to assess the crop loss to farmers due to unseasonal rains and said the central government had relaxed compensation norms.

Singh appealed to all state governments to provide as much relief as possible to the affected farmers, according to a home ministry statement.

Interacting with the farmers in the three districts, he said the central government was concerned about their problems.

"The prime minister is very concerned with the problems being faced by the farmers. We have already decided that those farmers whose 33 percent crops were damaged will be given full compensation," Singh said.
