Abu Dhabi: Sunshine Cricket Club Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Abu Dhabi - March 10: Abu Dhabi's oldest Club - "Sunshine Cricket Club" celebrated its 30th Anniversary in the Indian Social and Cultural Centre with a gala function in a carnival type of atomosphere on Friday March 09, evening.
The grand event which was held in the evening was attended by its past and current members and their families. The celebration commenced with the welcome speech by Ronald Rego, chairman of the Club, which was followed by variety entertainment consisting of dances by children, skits and songs by adults etc.
The highlight of the event was honouring of its oldest member and co-ordinator of the Club Jerome Pereira (Jemma Padil). He was conferred with "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his outstanding, honest, dedicated and sincere service towards the Club since its inception (1977). His Association with the club was so special and it has helped the club to reach the milestone of celebrating the 30th Anniversary and has been the backbone and pillar of this along-serving Club. Jemma received the award to the thunderous standing ovation from the audience.
Jemma in his speech thanked all the members, both past and present, for their support and encouragement and said cricket was his passion, and he will not forfeit it until he leaves Abu Dhabi in a couple of years and this day will remain closer to his heart, as it was his dream and urged younger club members to carry on with his mission after his departure.
During the occasion, awards were prsented to to the winning and runners-up teams with trophies and individuals awards of the 30th annivesrsary celbration tournament held on March 2, at the Al Jazira Stadium.
In his vote of thanks Jagadish, programme co-ordinator of the event, thanked all the sponsors, well-wishers and members and their families for their support and assistance towards the Sunshine Club.
There was a raffle draw and lots of spot prizes throughout the event.
The event was compered by Clifford Rego, assisted by Colin D'Souza.
The programme concluded with dinner, baila dance session and the Natinal Anthem.
