Udupi, Mar 10: The 33rd Annual Congress of Ephigraphical Society of India and 27th Annual Convention of Place Name Society of India was held at Nuthana Ravindra Mantap at MGM College here on Friday March 9.
Inaugurating the three – day event, Prasar Bharathi chairman M V Kamath called for a need to study Tulu script. He also stressed on setting up a library for Sanskrit copies and that Sanskrit is a very strong and lively language. He opined that the government and local bodies should conduct a study on names of places.
Deputy commissioner to the election commission R Balakrishna said that nearly 463 villages on the coast of Orissa have the influence of Nigerian culture, and a study pertaining to the same is being carried out which involves DNA tests, he said. India has the highest number of immigrants and the progress of the country can be accomplished only be understanding the roots of its multi – culture, he added.
