Kundapur, Mar 12: A woman Naxalite who was arrested by police on Sunday March 11 evening has been identified as Suma (20), a native of Hemmige near Mundaragi in Gadag district.

She was produced before the magistrate on Monday March 12 evening.  Her original name is Chennamma and she has been in the Naxal squad for the last 10 months.  Sources said that she was the member of Netravati Group of Naxalites who have been operating in the taluk and in Sidhapur areas.

As reported earlier she was arrested by police in civil dress at 5 pm on Sunday when she was waiting for a bus at Amavasebailu near here.  When police forced her into their car she is said to have shouted "Naxal Jindaba", a slogan shouted by Naxalites at the time of their arrest to reveal their identity.  She was waiting for the bus to go to Jeddinagadde after shopping at Amavasebailu.

Suma had participated in an interaction meeting of the villagers held at Thombattu recently.  She was identified as Naxalite then.  Based on this identity, she was arrested on Sunday, said Kundapur circle inspector Valentine D'Souza.
