Ammunition depot blast kills two in Afghanistan


Kandahar, April 21 (IANS): At least two people were killed and 21 others injured on Tuesday in an explosion at an ammunition depot in Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, police said.

"The huge explosion took place at around 7.45 a.m. at the Mirwas Mina area of the city," General Rahmatullah Atrafi, deputy provincial police chief, told Xinhua news agency, adding that the blast in the depot was accidental.

Among those injured were eight police personnel of the police station, the police official said.

The blast severely damaged several shops, vehicles and houses around the site.
