Mangalore, Mar 13: Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM) director V G Dhanakumar called for the setting up of a rubber producers’ society akin to that in Kerala and North East India.

He was delivering the introductory address at the short-term executive programme on ‘Institution Building and Business Led Extension Service for Rubber Sector’ at the conference hall of Hotel Poonja International here on Monday March 12.

Dhanakumar said that having a community for rubber producers will help them in facing challenges in the global market and also bring about unity among them.

The training programme, which will go on till Friday March 16, has been organised by IIPM and Rubber Board for the benefit of Senior Extension Officials of Rubber Board and Directors of RPS here and in Kundapur.

The programme was inaugurated by IIPM chairman P P Prabhu.

Among those present were Rubber Board regional office deputy rubber production commissioner V Mohanan and development officer Vijayan.
