Moscow, April 22 (IANS): Russia’s greatest enemy today is the Islamic State militant group, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday, TASS news agency reported.

"I believe that the Islamic State is our main enemy today. That’s just because hundreds of Russians, the citizens of the CIS countries, Europeans and Americans are fighting as part of it," Lavrov told three Russian radio stations -- Sputnik, Echo Moskvy and Govorit Moskva.

"They fight there and then come back and do harm at their place. Just two or three people are enough for that," he said.

Speaking about the current state of relations with the US, Lavrov said this was a "state problem and the problem of the world order and it needs to be solved through negotiations".

It is no coincidence that Washington is sending signals to Moscow through various channels, both officially and unofficially, that it is concerned about the latest interception incidents involving the Russian and US aircraft.

The US has proposed "establishing tools of cooperation and notification", he said.

"But it is not us who destroyed these mechanisms. If the US is interested in them, it should make an official offer. We will probably agree to it," he said.
