 Udupi, Mar 14: Interventional radiologist of Kasturba Medical College Hospital here in Manipal performed a complicated procedure to cure brain hemorrhage. This procedure was successfully performed without brain surgery.

 

In a press release, the hospital stated that Hanumanthappa (50) was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage through CT scan showing a large swelling of a blood vessel (aneurysm), deep in the brain and was admitted to the hospital. As surgery was considered very difficult and complicated and the patient may be required to stay in the hospital for a longer period for complete cure, a team of experts in radio-diagnosis Kasturba hospital led by Dr V R K Rao performed the procedure.

 

With the help of X-ray image on television they inserted a thin long micro tube into the aneurysm through a small nick in the skin of thigh and a large number of platinum spring coils were delivered into the aneurysm sack through the long micro tube from the thigh region. The blood flow in the deep part of the brain was protected by depositing steel mesh tubing.

 

These tubing (stent) also fixed the spring coils formerly within the aneurysm sack.

 

The procedure was successful and the patient recovered from the anesthesia at the end of the procedure, stated Dr Rao.
