Puttur, Apr 23: A man died on the spot in a collision between his bike and a Maruti Omni at Kalara near Uppinangady within the limits of Kadaba poilce station here on Wednesday April 22. Pillion rider of the bike and the driver of the car suffered grave injuries.

Chandrashekhar Gowda (48) from Khandige in Ramakunja village in Puttur taluk was the unfortunate victim of this accident.

Chandrashekhar's son Abhishek (15), a tenth standard student of Sri Ramakuneshwara Highschool, who was riding the pillion, was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru with serious injuries. Driver of the four-wheeler, identified as Abbas, was admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.

Chandrashekhar Gowda and his son were returning to their home in Khandige after visiting Lord Kukke Subrahmanya Temple and taking part in the house warming ceremony of a relative, when tragedy struck.

It is gathered that when the motor bike was coming from the direction of Kadaba, a hen crossed its path suddenly. When the bike rider made a hurried attempt to stop hitting the hen, the motor bike started moving in the opposite direction. As a result, it got involved with head-on collision with the Omni vehicle coming towards Kadaba. The motor bike was mangled badly in the accident, and the Omni too was extensively damaged.

Chandrashekhar suffered severe head injuries, and he was tossed into the roadside drain due to the impact of the accident. He was found lying in a pool of blood.

Gowda's body was taken to Kadaba government hospital for postmortem. The deceased is survived by wife, Janaki, who works as 'Asha' volunteer of Koila primary health centre, a son, and a daughter, who is a student of an engineering college.

MLA, S Angara, taluk panchayat president, Pulasya Rai, Agriculture Produce Market Committee president, Krishna Shetty, and Uppinangady police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, visited the spot. A case was registered in this connection at Kadaba police station.
