Seven policemen killed in Afghanistan clash


Kabul, April 23 (IANS): Seven policemen were killed and three others injured when anti-government militants overran a police checkpoint in Afghanistan's northwestern province of Badghis province early on Thursday, an official said.

"A group of Taliban rebels attacked a police checkpoint in Morichaq area of Balamirghab district along the border with Turkmenistan early Thursday, killing seven police and wounding three others," Mirwais Mirzakwal, spokesman for the provincial government, told Xinhua news agency.

Three more policemen have been reported missing, he added.

He also added that units of Afghan national army have been dispatched to the area to maintain law and order.
