Six missing as taxi falls into river in Jammu


Jammu, April 26 (IANS): Six people were missing while six people were rescued on Saturday after their taxi fell into a river in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, police said.

"A taxi went out of the driver's control at Mehad (Ramban) on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and plunged into the roaring Chenab river this morning," a police official told IANS here.

"A rescue operation was launched immediately. Six passengers have been rescued so far, but six are still missing," he said.

"Efforts to locate the missing passengers are on. It is feared that they may have been washed away by the current of the river," the official added.

Most of the passengers were labourers.
