Mangalore, Mar 15: The city has immense resources to help the coastal region develop eco-friendly and technologically advanced industries, said ONGC-MRPL general manager A G Pai.

He was speaking at a seminar organised by Mangalore University All College Students' Association on 'Industrial Development in Coastal Karnataka-Prospects and Opportunities'here on Wednesday March 14.

He further listed the numerous benefits that the coastal region offers in terms of man power, natural resources, sea port, airport along with good educational and medical facilities. Connectivity with the rest of the state and availability of fresh water are an added advantage, he
said.

At the same time, problems like frequent power failures, absence of trains to Bangalore and rising construction cost have played spoilsport to the city's rapid development, he opined.

Jayasreekrishna Parisara Premi Samithi founder president Jayakrishna Shetty, Nagarjuna Power Corporation senior vice-President K S Balachandra, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president Capt John Prasad Menezes and NITK-Director Prof Sandeep Sancheti, Lions District 324 multiple councilchairperson Kripa Amar Alva, Yenepoya Group of Institutions director P C M Kunhi, Shama Rao Foundation vice-president A Srinivas Rao, NMPT deputy chairman M A Bhaskarachar and others also spoke on the occasion.
