Passengers suffer as Haryana bus staff go on strike

Chandigarh, April 30 (IANS): With state roadways, private buses and taxis going off the road, thousands of passengers had to face harrowing time across Haryana on Thursday.

State-run bus services were completely paralysed across the state. Private bus operators too did not ply their buses. Buses remained parked at bus stands or bus depots, and passengers were left stranded.

Local modes of transport like auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws made a fast buck from people wanting to reach their destination on time.

Haryana's Director General of Police Yashpal Singhal had earlier asked field officers to keep the security arrangements on maximum alert and to take all precautionary measures to prevent any law and order problem in the wake of the 24-hour strike by employees of Haryana Roadways, operators of private buses and taxis.
