Exide's profit before tax rises by 10.43 percent


Kolkata, April 30 (IANS): Kolkata-based battery maker Exide Industries Ltd (EIL) on Thursday said its profit before tax during fiscal 2014-15 rose by 10.43 percent at Rs.798.5 crore against Rs.723.1 crore during the previous year.

The turnover of the company, for the period under review rose by 15.26 percent at Rs.6,874.2 crore against the turnover of Rs.5,964.2 crore registered during the corresponding period of last year.

In a filing with the National Stock Exchange, the company's managing director and CEO P.K. Kataky said: "Demand for both automotive and industrial battery remained subdued during the entire year."

The company said it is focussing on cost control measures and upgrading its technology to improve its profit margins.

For the period January-March 2015, the profit before tax rose by 4.28 percent to Rs.204.5 crore against Rs. 196.1 crore during the corresponding timeframe in 2014.
