Maruti Suzuki logs 30 percent sales growth


New Delhi, May 1 (IANS): The country's leading car maker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, began the new fiscal on a very positive note by closing April with a 29.6 percent sales growth over the corresponding period of the previous year, the company said.

In a statement, the company said it sold 111,748 units in April. This includes 11,039 units for export.

The company had sold 86,196 units in April 2014.

Last month, the company derived the bulk of its sales from Swift, DZire, Ritz, Celerio accounting for 42,297 units.

On the other hand, the small car models -- Alto, WagonR -- accounted for 35,403 units logging 35.9 percent sales growth over April 2014.

Maruti Suzuki experienced negative growth in the utility vehicles segment selling 4,452 units as against 5,011 units sold in April 2014.

The company also logged increased sales of its two van models -- Omni and Eeco -- last month with 12,069 units up from 8,322 units sold in April 2014.
