Coalition bombing killed 64 civilians in Syria last week: Report

Beirut, May 4 (IANS): At least 64 civilians were killed in northern Syria amidst the international coalition bombing against Islamic State last week, according to updated figures released by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Monday.

According to the NGO, 31 minors, 20 women and 13 men were among the victims, all of whom were killed on Thursday night and early on Friday in the village of Bir Mahali, south of the Syrian Kurdish enclave, Kobani, located in Aleppo province, Efe news agency reported.

SOHR said there had been an IS convoy of vehicles in the village late on Thursday night, prompting the international alliance airstrikes while the villagers were asleep.

IS proclaimed a caliphate last June in the areas under its control in Iraq and Syria, while the coalition began aerial attacks against Syrian territories under IS control last September.
