Bantwal, Mar 22: A rickshaw driver was assaulted by some unidentified men at Kaikamba near here in the early hours of Thursday March 22.

The assaulted has been identified as Rohit (23), son of Sundar and a resident of Perlia Nandarbettu near B C Road here.  He had come to open his father's canteen on Thursday morning when the unidentified men attacked him with wooden clubs and sabres.

He was pulled out from the canteen and was severely assaulted.  Despite injuries he started his rickshaw and moved towards the town.  But the miscreants chased him and assaulted him.  But he managed to escape from the spot.  He immediately went to the nearby nursing home and received first aid.

He was later shifted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore and is in ICU under treatment.  The hospital sources said that he is out of danger now but needs further treatment.

So far nothing is known about the culprits.  Rohit's father was running a canteen and Rohit used to supply food on his rickshaw to some regular customers. 

Bantwal police have registered a case in this regard.
