Now, youngsters can intern at Maharashtra CM's office!

Mumbai, May 7 (Mid-Day): Do you wish to work under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis? Here is an opportunity for graduates and post-graduates in all disciplines to spend 11 months in the CMO and other government departments.

Designed to mentor and cultivate young leaders, the first-of-its-kind CM’s Internship Programme is expected to help young minds understand the executive office and prepare them for public service opportunities in the future. Shortlisted candidates will work on effective implementation of the state’s flagship programmes. Online applications have already been invited from eligible candidates.

The interns would be placed in the CM’s office, offices of various ministers in charge of departments such as education, finance, rural development, urban development, PDS, office of chief secretary, additional chief secretaries, offices of any other departmental heads or district collectors. Upon successful completion of the programme, interns would be awarded a certificate.

A lot to earn

The interns will be given a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000, life and medical insurance cover, leaves, daily allowances, hotel accommodation (when on tour), as per the government rules. The selection process will be completed in two stages.

In the first stage, interested candidates will have to appear for an online test for assessment of their mental ability, quantitative aptitude, verbal skills, IT knowledge, etc. A total of 50 candidates will be selected for personal interviews in the second stage. Only 15 will make the final cut, said a highly placed official.

CM speak

Speaking to mid-day, CM said that such programmes would encourage the youth to understand functioning of the government. “Today’s youth is full of bright ideas that can help the government in giving good governance to the people.

We will offer them a platform they can use to make a significant change in the sectors of their choice,” Fadnavis said, adding that the experience will help interns in seeking jobs in government/private sectors and also encourage them to become entrepreneurs.

The annual internship programme will be jointly sponsored by the City and Industrial Development Corp- oration (CIDCO), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Develop-ment Authority (MMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Deve-lopment Corporation (MIDC) and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

First of all, kudos to everyone for coming up with a plan like this. Thise would definitely motivate young people who have a desire to be leaders and work for soeciety. I'm pleasantly surprised that even an organisation like MTDC, which is into tourism, supports a programme like this. This is good long term and versatile thinking.
