Schoolgirl raped, filmed and set on fire, dies

Noida, May 10 (NDTV): A Class 10 student died in Noida's Jewar area on Saturday after being set on fire by a group of men who had attempted to rape her.

The girl's parents had gone for a morning walk on Saturday when the accused - Lokendra, his wife Archana and his two brothers Pradip and Sonu - entered the house. After the girl resisted rape, they poured kerosene and set her on fire.

The neighbours noticed the father and rushed the girl to a local hospital, which refused to admit her. The 15-year-old was then taken to Lok Nayak Hospital in central Delhi where she died of the burn injuries.

"Police only got information today and has arrested the four accused," said a senior police officer.

The family of the girl has alleged that she was raped before by the men and filmed, and was being blackmailed by Lokendra and his wife for money. The girl had twice paid a sum of Rs. 5,000 but the accused were demanding more money, they added.

The girl had then told her father after which he confronted Archana on Friday who paid no attention to his accusations and screamed at him, they said.

The matter was brought to police's notice but no action was taken due to political connections of the accused, the girl's father has alleged.
