Australian boy accused of terror plot denied bail

Melbourne, May 11 (IANS): A 17-year-old boy accused of plotting a terror attack in the Australian city of Melbourne was denied bail on Monday.

He was arrested on Friday afternoon during high-level counterterrorism raids, with police allegedly seizing explosive materials from his family home in Melbourne, The Australian reported.

The teenager was denied bail by the Children's Court, where the identity of defendants are suppressed because of their age. But legal experts have called for the boy's identity to be revealed and that he be tried in an adult court despite his age.

The boy was charged with engaging in an act in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act as well as possessing things related to a terrorist act.
