Lost woman survived drinking breast milk

Wellington, May 11 (IANS): A New Zealand woman lost in a forest east of capital Wellington overnight said she drank her own breast milk and covered herself in dirt to survive, a media report said on Monday.

Susan O'Brien, 29, was lost while running in Rimutaka Forest and was rescued on Monday by a helicopter crew some 2.5 km from the path where she originally started her course, The New Zealand Herald reported.

The tenacious woman had kept warm through the cold night by covering herself with dirt and kept her strength up by drinking her own breast milk, rescuers said.

Crewman Colin Larsen said the chopper had just dropped off a team of searchers at the top of the track and decided to fly along the Orongorongo River to see if they could see her.

"And on our way back down we basically saw her standing by the river waving her arms."
