Odisha gets international award for pisciculture development


Bhubaneswar, May 14 (IANS): A state government-undertaking of Odisha has been selected for an international award for its contribution in pisciculture development, an official said Thursday.

Spain-based Business Initiative Directions (BID) has selected Orissa Pisciculture Development Corporation Ltd (OPDC), for international star award for leadership in quality (ISLQ) in gold category.

OPDC will receive the award in a ceremony in Paris, France during June, 27 and 28, commissioner-cum-secretary of the state fishery and animal resources development department Bishnupada Sethi told IANS.

" This award, sponsored by Imarpress media publications, is a result of recognition for the contribution of OPDC Ltd. in terms of leadership, quality and excellence in pisciculture development", he said.

Incorporated as a state government undertaking in 1998, the OPDC Ltd has been involved in the commercial activities mainly in fish seed production, fish net manufacturing and fuel trading.

The corporation has become a viable state public sector undertaking since 2010-11. The gross turnover of the corporation during 2014-15 was Rs.73 crore with a net profit of about Rs.70 lakh, he said.
