Ajman, Apr 2: More than 45 trophies were presented on the concluding day of the sixth annual GMCA sports and cultural festival held at the Gulf Medical College, Ajman. A week-long sports festival was conducted at the college from Saturday March 24 to Thursday March 29. The festival had participants from 14 leading colleges and universities in the UAE vying for the trophies.

The concluding day results of the various sports and the cultural festival were announced during the prize distribution ceremony held on the lawns of the college. The chief guest was Faizal K E, president and CEO of Emirates Techno Casting, UAE, who also gave away the prizes for the various winners along with the guests of honour Thumbay Moideen, founder president, Prof Gita Ashok Raj, dean of GMC and Jassim Al Khaja, general manager, City Center Ajman.


The results of the various sports events are as follows:

Cricket : Winner       – London City College, Dubai
               Runner up   – Preston University, Ajman

Football : Winner      – University of Wollongong, Dubai
                Runner up  – Preston University, Ajman

Basket Ball (Boys) : Winner      -University of Wollongong, Dubai
                                Runner up   -University of Sharjah

Basket Ball (Girls) :  Winner      – American University of Sharjah
                                 Runner up   – BITS Pilani, Dubai

Volley Ball (Boys) : Winner      – University of Sharjah
                                Runner up   – London City College, Dubai

Table Tennis (Boys) : Winners      – Bits Pilani, Dubai
                                    Runner up   – University of Wollongong, Dubai

Table Tennis (Girls) : Winners      – MAHE Manipal, Dubai
                                    Runner up   – Gulf Medical College, Ajman

Throwball (Girls) : Winners     – BITS Pilani, Dubai
                               Runner up  –American University of Sharjah

Special prizes were given in the following categories:

Highest individual scorer:  Osama, Skyline College, Sharjah for scoring 108 runs.

Man of the match: Kashif (68 runs not out, 1 wicket)

Best Batsman of the tournament: Emad, Preston University Ajman, for scoring 175 runs.

Best All-rounder of the tournament: Bilal Preston University Ajman, 7 wickets including one hatrick.

Man of the tournament: Kashif LCC who scored 131 runs and bagged 3 wickets.


The results of the various cultural events were as follows:

Best Group Song        : Bits Pilani, Dubai
Best Group Dance     : Bits Pilani, Dubai
Best Skit/ Drama      : Gulf Medical College, Ajman
Best Mad ads             : Gulf Medical College, Ajman
Overall Winner          : BITS Pilani, Dubai
Overall Runner-up     : Gulf Medical College, Ajman


The event was sponsored by a number of reputed companies like Emirates Techno Casting which was the Platinum Sponsor, X CEL as the Gold Sponsor and Thumbay group UAE as the silver sponsor for various sports and cultural events. The co-sponsors for the festival were City Center Ajman, Al- Rawabi, Pocari Sweat, Red Bull, RAUCHES, Skechers, Oasis Water, Neutrogena, Athletes Foot, Body & Soul, Blends & Brews, AL Gurg Lever LCC and ROXX.

 Keeping in view the enthusiasm generated among the students during the festival, Gulf Medical College, Ajman plans to extend the duration of the festival to two weeks in future and include more colleges and universities in various sports and cultural events.
