New Delhi, Apr 3: Delhi Police are investigating a complaint by the Spanish embassy stating that about 150 Indian tourists visiting Spain last year had gone missing.

"We were approached by the Spanish embassy in this regard March 15 and a complaint was registered at the Tughlak Road police station," a senior Delhi Police official told IANS on Monday.

The missing persons had visited Egypt and Spain during February-April 2006 in batches as part of an 'incentive tour' organised by a travel agency, he said.

"Our initial investigations suggest that the travel agency procured around 150 visas from the embassy by claiming that it is organising an official tour for a prominent cycle manufacturing company," the official said.

"A probe into the matter has made it clear that many of these people had used fake passports and fake visas," the official said.

Police have registered a case against the travel agency's owner for alleged forgery and cheating. They have detained some people for questioning.
