Mumbai, Apr 3: A 33-year-old Russian national was mysteriously found dead in a hotel room at Dadar on Sunday night. The police suspect that the man could have died of an insulin overdose, since he was found to be a diabetic.

The deceased has been identified as Shernav Sargoi, a marine engineer who was working with a Russia-based firm known as Bornox Company. Sargoi had come to the city in March this year and was in charge of some official work at the Mazgaon dock.

Sargoi had checked in with 17 other crew members at Pritam Hotel in Dadar (East) on March 20. On Sunday night at around 10.05 pm, when his colleagues met up for dinner, they noticed Sargoi was missing. Alarmed, they went to check his room.

But, despite repeated attempts, the door was not opened. The colleagues promptly informed hotel authorities, who then with the help of a duplicate key opened the door and found his body, said a police source.

“A bottle that seemingly contained medicine was found near the body lying on the floor. We believe it was insulin, since Sargoi, according to his crew members was a diabetic,” senior police inspector AB Deshpande from Matunga police station told DNA. The body was later sent to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion for post-mortem.

When asked whether the death was caused due to an overdose of insulin, Deshpande said, “No injury marks were found on the body. We don’t know the exact cause of death. The bottle has been sent for chemical analysis. The post-mortem report will clarify the exact cause of death.”
