Five killed in Afghan justice ministry bombing

Kabul, May 19 (IANS): At least five people were killed and conflicting reports claimed that 40 others were injured in a blast in Kabul on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The blast occurred when an explosives-packed Toyota Corolla car was detonated in the parking area of the Ministry of Justice's offices in PD2 district of the Afghan capital. The incident took place while ministry staff were leaving for the day, TOLOnews reported.

The explosion was heard for miles around and buildings in close proximity were damaged.

Security forces and emergency personnel were on the scene within minutes of the incident.

The blast took place at around 3.45 p.m., Xinhua news agency reported citing an official source.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The Afghan security forces sealed off the scene while thick black smoke rose above the site.
