Tripura magistrate sacked for misconduct, inefficiency

Agartala, May 19 (IANS): A judicial magistrate in Tripura was sacked for misconduct and inefficiency, a Tripura law department official said here on Tuesday.

"Sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) of Sabroom sub-division (in southern Tripura) Jhantu Bikash Das was dismissed from service on Monday by the state law department," a senior law department official told IANS refusing to be quoted.

The official said that following directions from the Tripura High Court the law department terminated Das's service for misbehaving with lawyers and for incompetency in judicial work.

Lawyers of the SDJM court had been staging protests against his misconduct and had brought it to the notice of the Tripura High Court.

"An inquiry conducted by the law department found the SDJM to be guilty. South Tripura district and session judge also separately filed a report against the accused judge. Accordingly, he was sacked from service," the official added.
