Madikeri, Apr 5:  Life in Virajpet is back to normal, following a clash between two communities in Virajpet on Tuesday April 4 in which a police officer and 24 people were injured and nearly forty shops were ransacked.

It may be reecalled that two youths had been to a telephone booth and asked Re 1 to make a call. When the owner refused to give the coin the boys began to abuse him, who in turn thrashed them.

With regard to this clash 16 people have been arrested and the market day will not be held until further notice.

Though the situation is back to normal, prohibitory orders have extended as a precautionary measure.
