Mumbai, May 21(TOI): Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis defended the state's beef ban on Wednesday, saying that it was inhuman to sell old bullocks to slaughter houses.
Fadnavis was asked what the state was doing to help farmers who were unable to take care of old and redundant bullocks which could no longer be slaughtered. To this, the chief minister said he found it difficult to accept the lack of affordability as the reason why farmers approached abattoirs.
"The state has made provisions to look after old bullocks. Even NGOs have come forward to offer their help," he said.
The state government had extended the existing ban on cow slaughter to include bullocks in March this year.
