Udupi, Apr 6: The Sushi Global Research Centre will begin generation of tidal energy on an experimental basic from Wednesday April 18, informed Centre chief Vijay Kumar Hegde while addressing a press conference here recently.
Hegde said that the project, costing an estimated Rs 12 crore, will aim at generating 20 kilowatt electricity. Union minister for labour Oscar Fernades is expected to inspect the power generation.
Elaborating the project, Hegde said that its implementation will help the unit to become the cheapest way of generating power, without harming the environment.
He further said that the power generating unit will begin in three months. President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be invited while NRI and England councilor Dr Neeraj Patil has already agreed to attend the inauguration ceremony, he added.
