Kundapur, May 22: Mahesh (21) from Hulikote in Gadag district, who has been arrested for sexually harassing a minor girl from Gangolli near here, continues to be under treatment at the government hospital here. After the mother of the 15-year-old victim filed police complaint, Gangolli police had arrested the accused. Mahesh has been booked under provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Reportedly, the accused complained of giddiness and collapsed to the ground when being brought in police vehicle. He was thereafter admitted into the government hospital here, where he is showing signs of recovery. Gangolli police sub-inspector, Subbanna, said that the accused is recovering in the hospital, and that in all probability he will be discharged from the hospital and produced in court on Friday. He added that the girl is under the care of 'Namma Bhoomi' society are present.

Strangely enough, the youth who has been arrested for sexual offences and in hospital for treatment, is being looked after by the father of the victim. Several eyebrows have been raised at the fact that a man, who is expected to be hostile towards the offender for misbehaving with his minor daughter, is taking care of him instead.

Mahesh, son of Hanumantappa from Hulikote in Gadag district, has completed SSLC education. Although his family has some land, he came to the town with some of his friends, and got engaged with masonry work. A few months back, he was involved with construction work of Coastal Security Force at Gangolli, and used to stay in a shed located opposite to this site. During this period, it is said, he got attracted towards the minor girl belonging to a poor family living nearby.
