Kanpur, Apr 7: Muslim scholars in Uttar Pradesh have expressed concern over the decision of the Allahabad High Court holding that the community is not a minority in the state.

Reacting to the HC's decision yesterday, prominent Muslim scholars believe that it would directly impact the state assembly election.

Talking to sources, convener of Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC), Zafaryab Jilani claimed the HC decision is against the Supreme Court's 2002 and 2005 orders.

"The HC decision may be stayed by the Supreme Court later, but at present it has given rise to a controversy,'' he added.

Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) would be the two parties most affected, he predicted.

Jilani further said he would take the case to SC, if the state government fails to do so.

According to Jilani, in a case, SC had already observed that a community less than 50 per cent of the total population falls under the minority category.

Another Muslim leader, Haji Mehboob was also of the same view as Jilani. ''I am shocked at the HC decision,'' Mehboob said.

Meanwhile, the VHP and BJP have welcomed the court decision.
